ABOUT ME

Sharon Hodges Bio

I fell into the entertainment and art world by accident many years ago and have been totally hooked ever since. I began face painting at a local theater for tips and progressed from there into specializing in all forms of face and body art doing everything from birthday parties to corporate events. As my growth as an entertainer progressed my love of face painting equally evolved. I have a strong connection with this art form and it is where I feel the most comfortable and accomplished. I have taken several classes from artists in this industry that are considered the best in the world and I attended the first Face Painting International Convention ever held in the US, in Orlando, FL in 2002. I have been an active supporter of the exploration and development of this art form. In 2003 I founded the first organized face painting group in the United States, DFW Face Painters Guild and held the position of president for the year 2003-2004. I am the owner of Enchanted Bodys/Your Enchanted Face, a company that specializes in all forms of face and body art enhanced by professional photography. I competed and received the highest award given at the 2005 Face and Body Art Convention in Orlando, Florida “First Place Best All Around”. I have taught and demonstrated all levels of face and body art and constantly strive to personally improve and share the skills and talents that I have. I have extended my artistic skills recently into photography and fashion make up as a way to enhance the overall body painting experience. I am constantly amazed at how all forms of art lend and blend together and remain inspired by the sheer beauty of face and body art.

I have been asked on occasion how I came up with my winning design for the 2005 competition in Orlando and I marvel when I think of it. There is an event held here in Dallas, Texas Called the Body Art Ball that showcases artistic talent along with performance talents, mostly modern interpretive dance. I had agreed to be a secondary painter at this event to back up and support the main painters many of whom had worked this event for years. This program selects what design is to be done but allows the artist the freedom of creating their own version and vision of the basic idea. To my surprise one of the artists did not show up to paint his model so I was asked to paint in his place and the design was to be a peacock. I had a basic idea of what a peacock looked like but only had one feather to go on and absolutely no time to prepare ahead. I have found that sometimes you have to let your inner self be your guide and so out came my bird or my first draft of her. This event was to be a 2 day event so I was to create this beautiful creature twice, both times being a complete pleasure. The first time I painted I liked the design best and the second time I favored the colors better so as I contemplated what I would offer to the FABAC competition I decided on this bird and combined both days of previous likes and dislikes. The outcome resulted in some of the best painting I have done so far in my life and produced a moment that besides the birth of my daughter has been one of the most wonderful events I have experienced. Both brought me tears of joy. I love what I do and I truly feel that when that is your focus and your only focus then that is what the world will see.
